Bruce Haselrig Group
Alan G. Cashaw, Sr.
Bruce G. Haselrig, Sr., had a distinguished career in higher education administration. As a student affairs practitioner, he has been able to refine his style by providing workshops for students, faculty and staff in the areas of student development, multiculturalism and diversity issues. He is a former classroom teacher who has designed, implemented, partnered and presented sessions, workshops, and training for colleges, universities, community based organizations, school districts, and the for- profit business sector. He has given back to his profession by presenting topics of interest at professional conferences. Upon leaving higher education he was hired as Assistant City Manager, City of Johnstown. Immersed in a wealth of challenging opportunities Bruce relied on a strong veteran staff to shorten his learning curve into local government. He was eventually selected as Interim City Manager, an experience that provided a tremendous leadership opportunity in working in the dynamics of leadership, diversity and staff development.
Some of the organizations that have recognized him for his contributions to diversity training include the PA Human Relations Commission, Johnstown Branch NAACP, Cambria County Community Action Council, Inc., and the Pennsylvania Unity Coalition. His expertise comes from hands on experience while actively working the “front” line, in schools and as a productive member of organizations in his community as well as in the college environment. He has used his leadership skills to develop, serve, and train numerous community based organizations and advisory boards.
Mr. Haselrig was a recipient of the University of Pittsburgh’s “Chancellor’s Award for Staff for Service to the Community.” He was awarded the President’s Staff Award for Excellence in Service by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Mr. Haselrig was selected as the “Outstanding African-American Male" by the Johnstown Branch NAACP, for exceptional contributions to the Greater Johnstown community. Some of the other awards that recognize his contributions to humanity include the Cambria County Community Action Council’s Paul Bennett Award, for helping to improve the lives of the people of Cambria County, the Revis A. Cox Memorial Award, presented by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), for the development and promotion of multiculturalism within the area of student development.
He has had a celebrated avocation as an intercollegiate (NCAA) and scholastic (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) wrestling official. He has been honored in recognition of his efforts to recruit, train, promote and evaluate officials. He has contributed several articles to publications on sports officiating and is a regular presenter/panelist at the Annual PIAA State Officials Convention. He has been inducted into the PA Chapter National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Athletics Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Hall of Fame, selected as “Man of the Year” on several occasions, most notably by the PIAA District Six Coaches Association, and the Inter-County Wrestling Conference.
